The stars shrilled, “Wake up! Wake up! You’re in excellent shape now!”
The moon woke up.
After a full day of rest, she had regained all her energy.
Thrilled, the moon called back, “I am so delighted that every one of you keeps me company.”
Meanwhile, the North Star had an idea. “Why don’t you get closer to the ground,” it suggested, “and see what merry togetherness you find?”
The moon crept down gradually. Looking at the river, time slowed down.
So profound was her relaxation that she shone with a radiance that felt like a silent “hello” to all who were looking at her.
In the Moon River, one music note rose to stare at the moon. Inspired, it jumped with joy.
The other notes spun round and round, weaving perfect music.
Soon after, note E leapt onto the riverbank to greet the lower notes. Note B, however, was now out in the cold.
Note C asked, “Is a high-pitch note missing somewhere?”
“Shall we find her? Otherwise, we’ll never be united!”
They searched everywhere in the river, even diving to the bottom. There, the high note lay sprawled, like dying upon the riverbed.
The mezzo-soprano note said, “We must find a way to revive her fading heart—she is our family.”
The bass note asked, “Should we sing to bring the soprano back to life?”
They tried to sing in harmony to form a perfect team. Honestly, this was not only for musical unity but also to gently pull the waning high note out of her tunnel vision. Perhaps, by listening to their soothing melodies, she could let those trapped, high-pitched feelings find a way out. And so, they continued, softly nudging one another forward.
Coincidentally, two well-known cellists, Hauser and Šulić, were strolling along the riverbank.
They were captivated by the whispering beauty of the musical notes. Taking out their cellos, they began to play straight from their hearts. The delicate sounds emanating from their instruments nudged the smooth water, stirring the sunken high-pitched note.
Her eyes fluttered open!
Finally, she was lifted from the river’s depths.
All the music notes patted her shoulders and hugged her.
Now assembled as one, they became a team of vigorous, harmonious notes.
Working alongside Hauser and Šulić, they brought their newfound harmony to symphony lovers around the world. In time, Hauser and Šulić’s live performances took the world by storm. For years, cello lovers have immersed themselves in their heavenly music.
Every Mid-Autumn Festival, under the full moon, Hauser’s team returns to the Moon River to celebrate a wonderful reunion. Of course, the full moon herself yearns to greet them on this special night. To her, nothing brings greater happiness than this simple, joyous gathering.
